Remember the Red Barn restaurant? If not, that was gooood eats, boy! You can still see reminders every now and then when you pass a used car lot or a clinic or an arcade in a oddly huge barn-shaped building. Anyway, I found a website devoted to the Barn; and if it's any consolation to the mods, the site does feature clips of commercials from '77. I mean it's still there but now a party store. Also, there was one on Telegraph in Taylor, just south of Ecorse Rd. After it closed up it became a video arcade for quite awhile. Now, I don't know what it is or if it's even still standing. I only ever ate at a Red Barn a few times but, their burgers were as good as anyones. Hell, I wish they were still around along Burger Chef, Hardees, and some of the newer ones from out west like Sonic and In n' Out.

It is now an Arbys. When it was a Red Barn, it would have been right before the entrance to the Gratiot Drive In. Rick

Remember a burger joint called Wuv's? It was on Telegraph betw (IIRC) 5 and 6 Mile. And, of course, good ol' Top Hat (I can smell those grilling onions to this day, yum!). ERW

Pass by it sometimes when I'm in that area. Also remember a Red Barn on Michigan Ave off of West I-94 in Detroit. Used to eat there during the 70s when I was a kid. Always remembered liking the food a lot. It's a used car dealership now.

It closed adn became a mr sub for a while. i think it has been torn down now. My question to you michiganders.. what ever happened to Rally's? I have not seen a commercial for one in ages and ages now. I assume that they are no longer around? or do theyjust not need the advertising?

There is also one in NJ. Red Barn was great for their burgers, which I think featured 1000 island sauce similar to the Big Boy. They also had fantastic chicken and good thin fries. Burger Chef was also one of my favorites.

Speaking of Top Hat there was a White Castle caddy corner to it and two gas stations on the other caddy corner's. This may give away my age, but one station was a TOTAL, which sold a gallon of gas at a price that made the guilty of usury....19 cents per gal!!! To me that was a classic corner from my Detroit childhood. New Jersey never had nothin' like that!

There was one in Castro Valley on Castro Valley Blvd, that's still standing, and is now a Hof Brau. There was one in San Leandro in front of the Bay Fair Mall, there was one in San Jose that is still standing and now called Burger Barn and still serves some of the same food. I used to love the chicken and the burgers, particularly the Barnbuster. I actually liked Red Barn better than McDonald's. When the hungries hit, when the hungries hit....hit the Red Barn
