Rosie's Diner in Rockford

Next to Rosie's Diner is a gift shop which is the former Uncle Bob's Diner which was located in downtown Flint. The Diner Store was there before Rosie's Diner was. The whole story is at www.rosiesdiner.com

That's why Munising isn't on my list. Cleveland rocks... so do the towns on the San Andreas fault.

Drive-in restaurants | ||

In Westland, a former Burger Chef on Wayne Rd. just south of Cherry HIll is now a Leons Family Dining.
As for A&W, haven't been that way in awhile but, there was still one of their drive-ins on Eureka Rd in either Southgate or Trenton. It was still going a couple of years ago. What about Dalys? Far as I know, there's 3 left. Wayne Rd. in Westland, Plymouth Rd. in Livonia and Beech Daly Rd. in Dbn. Hgts. The last one nearly closed a few weeks ago over some unpaid taxes issue but, it's still going. |

I love Daly burgers and go out of my way for one when I'm in the Livonia area! The one that I know is on Plymouth, somewhere near Middlebelt. You need two hands to eat one because the buns are so soft, the burger "bends." But they are heaven!

The old-style drive-in A & W in Dexter just moved out to the freeway... sadly, it's now a drive-THRU A & W, best I can tell...
For the record, I've tallied it all up. There are 80 open A & W's in Michigan, and 70 closed or canceled ones. |

A new KFC/A&W combo restaurant is about to open in Flint on Corunna Road west of I-75 in front of the Lowe's home improvement center which is east of where the West Side DI used to be where the HealthPlus office building now stands.

No mention of Berkely or Clawson A&W's?
|
Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought that the A&W in Berkely on 12 mile and Clawson A&W on Main were still Drive-ins.

The A & W's in Berkeley and Clawson are still open, as A & W drive-in restaurants.

A & W, Olympic Broil | ||
|
There is an A & W in Mason, just off highway 127. I believe they still do drive in service. I remeber eating there when I was younger, in the restaurant you would order the food over a phone at every table.
Olympic Broil is right up the street from my house, and it remains one of my favorite lunch places. The food is good, its cheap, and the place looks really clean. If you ever get a chance stop in there for some onion rings or fried muchrooms. |

sonic drive-in | ||

The best burgers are at SONIC by far. I really wish there was at least one in Michigan. As soon as you move into the southern states you will agree, the burgers are the best. Try their pecan pie shake, now there's something worth trying at least once a day.

According to my sources, there is a Sonic DRive-In at 850 N. Perry in Pontiac, MI. Might wanna check that out

Sonic? | ||
|
I drive Perry Street every day, and I don't know of any Drive-in (Sonic or otherwise) anywhere in the area. There is a lawn mower/tractor dealer that has a building that looks like it might have been a drive-in restaurant at some point in the past, though.

Re: Dog n Suds | ||

If you go to the Dort Mall at the corner of S. Dort & Atherton in Flint (where the Dort DI used to stand to keep it on-topic), there is a working neon Dog n Suds sign among all the other antique items (including other restored vintage signs) you can see inside the mall. BTW, it may have been mentioned previously, but there is still one operating Dog n Suds in Michigan in Montague. It's on the Internet at...

We used to go to the A&W on Clio Rd. and Pierson Rd. in Flint. Luckily the owner of that one owned the Flushing A&W too so the same red sauce is in Flushing too. We still go to the Flushing A&W a lot during cruising season. I'm really in the mood to go now. Can't wait.

The Big Boy at 9 and Gratiot is still standing, Still a Big Boy, but it is now only sit down. are there any Big Boy that still have their Drive-In's?
as For Sonic, i went to One in Gadsden AL a couple of time. My dad doesn't like that you have to talk to a speaker to order. As for Burger Chef's the one on 9 Mile and Hoover was converted to Hardees and closed down when the chain (Hardees) sold out to Tim Horton's. |
