Anyone remember the old painting shows on PBS and elsewhere? Actually, some are still on and going strong today. My mom and dad were both fans of lots of these shows and our whole family got hooked on 'em. A couple of our favorites were: THE ART OF WILLIAM ALEXANDER (if you could make out what he was saying half the time), and, THE JOY OF PAINTING WITH BOB ROSS (this guy was great. As was his 2-foot afro!).
I mean, even if you're not into art or painting, you'd watch one of these shows and suddenly want to desperately run out and buy paints, brushes, and an easel so you could try it, too! Our whole family would get all hyped up about painting after watching one, and for the next week we'd all be sitting around the house painting--mostly terribly, btw.
It was fun, though.
I remember well the great, Bob Ross, painting his "happy little trees" everywhere (he made it look so easy!), and almost lulling you into a hypnotic trance as his brush danced around the canvas creating pretty darn incredible landscapes in only 20 minutes, right before your very eyes!
THE JOY OF PAINTING is actually still on PBS early Saturday mornings (not sure if they're old reruns with the now-deceased Bob Ross, or what, though), and I think old William Alexander shows still air around the country, too. We still have some of those old, original shows on tape that we recorded many years ago. So was anyone else ever a fan of these shows?
